Job summary

There are few careers that are as rewarding as one in the NHS, or that gives you the opportunity to work with such a variety of people. Neurology offers you the opportunity to really make a difference to the lives of patients and their families.

The right candidate will possess a calm and supportive manner and will work well as part of the MDT. Ideally the potential candidates for this role will have neurology experience, although this is not essential. Candidates must show dedication, motivation and a willingness to take on new challenges, have a proven record of undertaking audits and supporting change on the ward. In addition to effective interpersonal and communication skills, you will be adept at both working as part of a team and able to act on your own initiative to provide an excellent standard of individualized patient centered care.

The post is full time and a mixture of days, nights and weekend shifts is expected including holding the nursing bleep for Specialist Medicine for the LGH

Main duties of the job

The successful candidates will be based at the Leicester General Hospital (LGH) Brain Injury Unit.

Are you a Band 6 who is ready to become a Band 7 Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse or a current Band 7 looking for a different experience? We have a Ward Sister secondment on the Brain Injury Unit at the Leicester General Hospital.

In both areas we will ensure that you are supported during the transition and we will work with you to create an individual development plan. In return we need dedicated staff who want to help us to continue to provide high standards of patient care within Neurology and be a role model.

The Neuro Rehab and Brain Injury Units are both busy and challenging areas but incredibly rewarding, you'll support the ward staff to ensure the safe and supportive environment to provide vital care to individual patients with potential life changing brain injuries or complex neurological conditions. These patients at times are at their most vulnerable and can require emotional support, diversional activities, patient safety and personal care. This is a responsible and rewarding role, with a direct impact on patients' lives.

If you are successful you'll become the leader of a talented, passionate team of people, committed to providing the best care for patients.
