The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and Acute Care Bay (ACB) AMU Annex
AMU / ACB / AMU North Band 5 Registered Nurses
We are looking for dynamic enthusiastic Band 5 nurses to work on the Acute Medical Unit (32 beds) and the Acute Care Bay ( 10 beds ) at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. The area is a fast paced medical environment where you can gain a wealth of experience in acute medicine. We offer excellent opportunities and support for development.
Main duties of the job
The Acute Medical Unit/ ACB and the Annex (AMU North) works closely alongside each other . The areas are a fast paced short stay units comprising of 72 Patientsin total . Patients are admitted to the assesment units directly from the emergency department . The length of stay for patients is approximately 24 to 48 hours. You will gain knowledge around the discharge process. As a band 5 registered nurse you will rotate between all areas.
We work closely to our training and development team.
- We can offer support to newly qualified nurses (DMU students to apply through clearing)

- Rotational posts on the Emergency floor
Internal rotation shift patterns are available /full time/part time hours. Please note that AMU receives Covid positive and suspected Covid patients from the Emergency Department .
About us
ACB cares for highly dependent acute medical patients. This is a 10 bedded area which provides nurses an excellent opportunity to develop acute nursing skills. The unit receives patients directly from the Emergency Department.
The assessment unit and ACB provide the initial assessment and management of medical patients. You will learn about CPAP and Non -invasive ventilation .
AMU and ACB are part of the new and exciting emergency floor development at the Leicester Royal Infirmary. The brand new state of the art AMU/ACB opened in June 2018.
