KEY WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The post holder will maintain good communications and working relationships with;
Members of Trust staff at all levels including nursing staff,
Estates Supervisors.

All Estates and Facilities staff across all disciplines.
External Agencies/ Specialist sub-contractors.
Emergency services.
KEY RESULT AREAS
Carry out work in accordance with current legislation, codes of practice and best practice guidance
Work safely observing the Trust and departments Health and Safety Policies and procedures.
Work efficiently using technology to work within Service Level agreements and Key performance Indicators.
Carry out tasks and communicate failures and non-conformities to linemanager.
To act in a professional manner when undertaking tasks and duties in contact with Patients, Visitors, contractors and staff.
Contribute to the operation of the CAFM system ensuring relevant records are kept up to date and information readily available.
Service Delivery & Development
Actively participate in the control and transfer of information systems including completion of all paperwork required. (Including completion of all job dockets and timesheets). To participate in regular team briefings.
Understand and adhere to Trust policies and procedures pertinent to the role.
Participate in the Trust Appraisal system and Personal Development planning
Responsible for liaising with the Senior Head Gardener to ensure appropriatesystems are in place to evidence ongoing compliance with local and national policies as required for CQC standards.
Ensure effective monitoring of works undertaken to ensure compliance to statutory requirements across the estate.
Patient/Customer Service
Responsible for ensuring that consistently high standards of customer service are delivered.
Regular contact with University of Leicester staff as required to performnormal duties.
GENERAL
To communicate and liaise with staff from other departments or customers in order to arrange suitable times for the use of cutting equipment near open windows, pavements, roads or car parks and maintain good working relationships with other staff.
Provide notices to warn public and staff of work activity.
To develop a close working relationship with other members of the Estates Department and assist with advice on technical aspects including servicing of machinery.
To ensure effective communication with other members of the team and to participate in team meetings and briefings.
To contribute to the continual improvement of gardens and grounds on all UHL and community sites as required.
Control of garden machinery in a safe manner, reporting any faults to the estates management teams and not attempting to self-rectify until assessed or instructed to do so.
To comply with Health and Safety requirements to ensure personal safety and the safety of colleagues.
To contribute to safe and secure pathways and to carry out maintenance as required on UHL and Community sites.
Use the Planet Facilities Management job logging system with the Senior Headgardener to organise and plan duties out-with Planned Preventive Maintenance and reactive tasks.
To take part in the maintenance and upkeep of plant containers and watering bedding plants.
To take responsibility for own designated areas.
Plan and organise to work in a safe manner that does not endanger otherpersons on site.
Planning, measurement and execution of seasonally changing work routines.
To weed flowerbeds and shrubbery etc.
Plan, co-ordinate and participate in mowing grass, sweeping roads / paths and weeding and spraying.
Trim and prune flowers, trees and shrubs in accordance with good gardening practice and to prevent foliage overhanging paths, roadways, drainage gullies and manholes etc.
To ensure drainage and road gullies are clear of rubbish.
Regularly cut and maintain lawns using assorted mowing machines and to competently use basic manures, fertilisers and weed killers. All lawn edges to be neatly trimmed.
To replace failed trees, shrubs and plants as appropriate.
Carry out seasonal planting to flower beds, planters and containers to provide year round colour and to water as necessary to prevent drying out.
Carry out minor repairs and preparatory works to hard landscaping e.g.concreting, slab laying, fencing if requested.
To empty rubbish bins and cigarette bins, to sweep and remove litter from hard and soft landscaped areas.
To safety check vehicles and equipment are fit for purpose prior to use. Drive, operate, clean, lubricate and carry out minor maintenance operations on all grounds and garden vehicles and equipment, and to record details in maintenance log.
To organise oil and petrol collections for vehicles and equipment.
To detect and deal with common plant diseases and pests.
To assist Estates staff in any other works necessary to ensure the efficient running of the Estates Department; this will include working inside the buildings on minor repairs or assisting the skilled craft persons.
To participate in planned activities and ad-hoc calls between November and March in respect of roadway and paths salting, clearing snow and fallen trees during winter months.
To carry Trust communication devices (mobile phones, radio) at all times to facilitate immediate response to emergency calls when on duty.To be aware of Control of Substances Hazardous Health (COSHH) regulations for materials used and keep up to date data sheets for all products used.
To be aware of all Grounds and Gardening Trust Risk Assessments.
To carry out work ensuring it adheres to hospital policies, code of conduct, working at height, etc.
The post holder will be expected to undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade.
An element of multi skilling across the estates trades will be required; safety, competence and limitations of the individuals expertise will be assessed and evaluated as part of the multi skilling process. The post holder will be required to undertake the relevant training as required.
Work independently to clearly defined policies with minimal supervision orsupport when required and be able to make and justify decisions based on clear and rational analysis of the risks and requirement of the post.
Manufacture, assemble, erect and install new work, using various tools,machinery and general workshop equipment.
Problem solving and fault finding on grounds and gardening
Ensure that the PPM is carried out thoroughly, efficiently and promptly providing full and complete records.
Plans and organises own work schedule in conjunction with the Senior Head Gardener some of which will be on-going and requiring liaison with other members of Estates staff to enable organising times for access.
Comply with all statutory and other relevant guidelines, in particular those related to the Trust/department policies and procedures and Health & Safety policy, encouraged to comment in the light of experience to improve safety and service delivery.
To use materials, substances with regard to Health and Safety and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) regulations.
To undertake all work activities as requested by the, Senior Head Gardener and Estates managers.
Responsible for the safe use of tools and test equipment.
Responsible for security of all workplaces including workshops and other buildings / rooms / departments whilst carrying out lone working within these areas.
Required to complete work dockets providing information re materials used, additional or follow on works and time taken to complete the task as well as other observations and /or health and safety issues.
To undertake other duties commensurate with this grade of post in agreement with the relevant line manager.
To minimise the Trusts environmental impact wherever possible, including recycling, switching off lights, computers, monitors and equipment when not in use. Helping to reduce paper waste by minimising printing/copying and reducing water usage, reporting faults and heating/cooling
