Job summary

Applications are invited for a twelve month 1 WTE post in Palliative Care at the University Hospitals of Leicester from August 2023 -July 2024. Applications are welcome for people who wish to work less than full time.

This is a bespoke post created at IMT3 level within Palliative Medicine, which is designed to provide experience of delivering Palliative Medicine in a hospital setting and hospice setting throughout the year. There is the opportunity to consolidate and develop other skills through allocated non-clinical time to undertake teaching, audit and quality improvement work (at least 1 day a week) depending on interests and experience and the current project work within the team.

This post requires at least 4 years experience as a postgraduate doctor with at least 2 of those years working within the UK. It is ideal for trainees who wish to develop competencies and apply for a specialty training post -in Palliative Medicine or one of the many other medical, surgical and emergency specialties where these skills are regularly utilised. Training will be provided to help you develop your skills in palliative care. You will be allocated an Educational Supervisor. Previous post holders have gone on to Palliative Medicine Training Programmes and used this time as evidence of hospital palliative care experience.

Main duties of the job

You would join a team of Consultants, Palliative Medicine Registrars, IMT doctors and Clinical Nurse Specialists who deliver Palliative Care across Leicester's hospitals and LOROS hospice.

  • Current BLS Certificate

Desirable

  • MRCP or MRCGP or equivalent
  • Membership of relevant specialist body eg Association for Palliative Medicine

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum of 24 months' UK experience as a practising post FY1 doctor
  • Evidence of interest in Palliative Care and holistic care in practice
  • Evidence of/willingness to engage in novel approaches to patient care including digital technology
  • Experience of/willingness to engage in assessment and mgmt of people in a community setting

  • Experience of delivering teaching to peers
  • Experience of providing support and supervision to other staff
