Maintaining a high quality training environment for junior doctors is paramount to ensuring the recruitment and retention of medical staff at all levels.
The UHL Department of Clinical Education has a focus on improving quality in medical education and has developed a range of tools to monitor, measure and manage quality improvement in medical education. This has enabled the Trust, to be proactive in identifying areas of good practice as well as early, emerging challenges. The UHL Medical Education Strategy outlines the key priorities for the Department of Education which include a focus on improving quality in medical education.
The role will offer opportunities to work on projects related to improving postgraduate medical education that reflect current priorities at local and national level.
There will also be opportunities to teach at postgraduate and undergraduate level and participate in undergraduate assessment activity.
This Fellowship post will also provide an opportunity to develop organisational and leadership skills necessary for future roles as consultants and clinical leaders.
Applicants should be able to demonstrate an established interest in medical education, for example through previous teaching or postgraduate qualifications

Main duties of the job
Clinical Education project work- The nature of this work will be determined following discussion with the Fellow and there is flexibility, depending on the specific interests of the Fellow appointed.
The Fellow will work with the Department of Clinical Education senior management team to assist with the development, implementation and evaluation of initiatives to improve junior doctor morale within UHL.
The Clinical Education Fellow will be a tutor for the Leicester Medical School Phase 1 (year 2) bedside teaching programme, with a number of assigned student groups.
There will also be opportunities to facilitate simulation based teaching, get involved in assessment activities and gain experience in writing examination questions/simulation scenarios.

The Department of Clinical Education at UHL employs a number of Education Fellows who are supervised by the Director of Medical Education. The wider team of Education Fellows provides good peer support with identified office space and resources.
We have a busy clinical skills and simulation unit with opportunities to participate in OSCEs and develop new teaching programmes.There are opportunities to present work at local meetings and the Department are keen to support new projects and initiatives wherever possible.
