Job summary

Clinical Engineering's Role

Clinical Engineering is a highly specialist clinical scientific service concerned with safe, effective, medical equipment management and maintenance service to clinical users of patient connected diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment throughout the trust. Very high levels of support are given to critical care areas such as ICU, operating theatres, neonatal intensive care and coronary care where the immediacy of patient harm is the greater.

Clinical Engineering has a role throughout the whole medical equipment life cycle.

Functions include:

Providing expert advice on the selection of equipment to meet a clinical need

Leading the medical equipment capital replacement programme for Trust

Managing networked medical equipment and its cyber security.

Medical equipment maintenance services

Medical Device Safety Officer resource. Adverse Incident investigation.

Providing assurance that the trust meets current national / international best practice guidance.

Contributing to implementation of Trusts' Sustainability Transformation Plans.

Main duties of the job

GeneralThe post-holder has to frequently switch between Financial & Procurement mainly keyboard-based work to a 'hands-on' technical role at short notice as 'faulty medical equipment is brought to the Clinical Engineering response desk. Each day is unpredictable.The post-holder requires the ability to prioritise various demands and to work for considerable periods without supervision.

Grantham and District Hospital serves the communities of Grantham and the local area. It provides ambulatory paediatric and accident and emergency services.

Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) and United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) have come together in a Group arrangement, with the goal of improving the care provided to patients across the county.

This will not constitute a formal merger of the two organisations, but will bring the Trusts together under a single Board and Executive Leadership Team, with the goal of improving the care that is provided to patients both in the community and in hospitals across Lincolnshire. Both Trusts will retain their separate statutory names and legal obligations.

The Group will be known as Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group (LCHG).
