Fixed Term Speciality Doctor - Urology

Job summary

This is a replacement post to assist the Consultants in providing a comprehensive Urology service to the County of Lincolnshire.

The department is now a Pan Trust service - Lincoln County Hospital, Louth County Hospital, John Coupland Hospital, Gainsborough, Grantham and District Hospital and Pilgrim Hospital, Boston. Audit, CPD and MDM sessions are organised on a Pan Trust basis.

The Urology Alliance provides a strengthened partnership working for:The transfer of complex urological cancer patients between the partners in order to offer a full range of appropriate treatment including robotic assisted upper tract nephron sparing surgery, pelvic cancer surgery and reconstruction procedures.The transfer in of selected patients to ULHT (e.g. Brachytherapy and non-cancer patients);Development of shared care pathways and protocolsJoint specialist MDTIt is expected that the post holder will assist the Consultants with audit and quality assurance, postgraduate training of junior staff. The Specialty Doctor should be able to liaise confidently with general medical practitioners and promote the Specialty of Urology; they will treat patients on behalf of and under the direction of the Consultants.

This post is for a full time 10 PA (Programmed Activity) Specialty Doctor.

Main duties of the job

The Urology department provides a wide range of urological services including:

  • Robotic Surgery for Prostate cancer and upper tract surgery
  • Full range of stone surgery, including PCNL, recently added new Holmium laser unit for the upper tract Endo-urology
  • Full range of incontinence services, including VUD in its sister unit at Pilgrim Hospital
  • Nurse led and consultant led erectile dysfunction clinics
  • A dedicated Urology investigations suite offering a full range of diagnostic facilities, including flexible cystoscopies, transperineal prostate biopsies under local anaesthetic, uroflowmetry and urodynamics.
