Main duties of the job

This is a Trust Middle Grade in Stroke Medicine appointment for United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospital, based at Lincoln County Hospital. This is not a Deanery Training post.

Participation in the medicine on-call registrar rota is expected (with additional remuneration). The post holder will be responsible for the admission, clerking and day-to-day care of patients on any of General Medicine wards, as required.

Study leave will be granted for approved courses by agreement with the supervising consultants and at the discretion of the Clinical Director/Head of Service. Although not a formal training post, the post holder will be expected to participate in the teaching programme, and will be encouraged to attend appropriate courses to further his/her career. There is an on-site, purpose built, Education Centre providing facilities for, and supporting, undergraduate and postgraduate education.

All medical staff are expected and encouraged to maintain good working relationships, which currently exist with all other staff in the hospital. The appointee will be encouraged to undertake a quality improvement projects in Stroke Medicine and participate in the monthly directorate clinical governance meeting.

About us

Lincoln County Hospital is situated close to the centre of Lincoln. It is a large and modern complex, catering for the majority of major specialties and has 557 acute beds. There are 172 beds for acute general medical and elderly care, including coronary care and renal care, as well as a 51-bed medical emergency admission unit and an 18-bed surgical admissions unit. Additionally, there is a 19-bed Frailty Unit. The 10 side-room Respiratory Support Unit (4 negative pressure rooms) opened in summer 2021. A sizable, well-staffed Accident and Emergency Department is available. At the moment, the hospital has 108 general surgical beds, a 20-bed critical care unit (levels 2 and 3), a ten theatre operating suite, and three orthopaedic wards. There is an Ophthalmic Unit, an Adult Day Care Unit, an ENT department, and a newly constructed, fully equipped Clinical Oncology department.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current valid Full GMC registration with licence to practice
  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent
  • Medical degree (MBBS, MChB or equivalent)
  • Advanced Life Support

Desirable

  • Previous experience in Acute or General Internal Medicine ST3 or equivalent level

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Clinical Training and experience equivalent to that of an ST3+ doctor
  • Ability to take responsibility for clinical care of patients and lead junior staff members
  • Demonstrates clinical competence
  • Ability to perform medical procedures expected at completion of CMT2, e.g. pleural tap, chest drain, ascetic drain, lumbar puncture etc
  • Current ALS provider

Desirable

  • Ideally at least 1 year clinical experience in UK/ NHS
