Job summary
An Estates Maintenance Assistant plays a key role in the Estates Engineering Maintenance Department and the Trust overall. The individual will be part of and support the Estates maintenance team in the delivery of statutory, Planned maintenance and also reactive maintenance that will contribute to the Trusts objectives been carried out in a clean, safe, cost-effective, efficient manner and compliant with legislation, Health Technical Memorandums (HTM) and good practice.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will undertake works relating to the fault finding, diagnostics, commissioning, planned maintenance and repairs to a variety of engineering plant and equipment, grounds & Gardens across the Trust properties in accordance with training, such as but not limited to:
- General reactive and planned maintenance both internally and external to the site
- Assist in testing and operation of Standby Generator Plant
- Basic Lighting, sockets and small power circuits repairs
- Fire Alarm systems checks
- Emergency Lighting testing and checks
- Passenger Lift Entrapment release
- Basic Repairs and checks of Nurse call and Alarm Systems
- Basic Repairs and Maintenance of Ventilation systems
- Basic plumbing repairs and maintenance
- Unblocking foul water and surface water drainage systems
- Grounds & Gardens maintenance including litter picking, snow clearing, gritting, grass and hedge cutting, tree maintenance, road sweeping, emptying bins, signage repairs, line marking and painting
- General building fabric maintenance such as basic painting, decorating, window repairs, flooring and joinery repairs
- Any other activity deemed appropriate for skill and competency level
- Assisting Houskeeping teams undertake their duties such as removing vent grills to allow suitable cleaning etc
- General Maintenance of Beds and Wheelchairs

- Appropriate City and Guilds Qualification, NVQ2 or equivalent in an Engineering related or material management discipline
- Additional Hospital Engineering related certified training
- Demonstrable extensive experience of Estates stores management in a similar size organisation
Previous Experience
Essential
- Experience in the maintenance of buildings, mechanical and electrical plant and services within a similar organisation or similar size and complexity organisation.
Desirable
- Experience of maintenance in a hospital environment. In particular: - Air conditioning, refrigeration, fire alarms, building maintenance, electrical and or mechanical specific experience
Evidence of Particular Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Ability to evidence/demonstrate key values and behaviours in line with the Trust framework
- Good understanding of general regulations, and associated safety procedures
- Able to work safely and have knowledge of Health and Safety legislation in the built environment

- Good manual dexterity
- Exchanges maintenance, technical project-related information with specialists, non-specialists; negotiates with contractors or suppliers
- Logical and systematic approach to work tasks
