We have an exciting opportunity for a Transfusion Practitioner to join our driven and industrious team in the Blood Transfusion Department. Our services are based across four hospital sites, the post holder will be required to cover Lincoln County Hospital (base) and County Louth Hospital.
The post holder will play a leading role in the development and delivery of multi-professional educational programmes, and competency assessments, covering all aspects of blood transfusion, including sessions to clinical staff, all grades of medical staff, and the development of core learning updates.
Applications are welcomed from professionals with a keen interest in the speciality from both registered nurses (NMC pin) and HCPC registered biomedical scientists with relevant experience in an acute hospital setting. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, good understanding of transfusion practices and governance procedures. The candidate will be leading in incident management actions on a regular basis.
This role will contribute towards an environment and culture that supports and encourages personal and professional development whilst supporting the improvements within the service.
Main duties of the job
The purpose of this job is to effect changes in practice to ensure compliance with the Health Service Circular 2007/001 'Better Blood Transfusion - Safe and Appropriate Use of Blood', and any transfusion related directives, laws, and recommendations, including the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations 2005 as well as any relevant future directives / legislation / recommendations. To do this will mean liaison with all grades and levels of staff within the Trust as well as external agencies and providers.
The post holder will promote Patient Blood Management (PBM), to optimise the care of patients who might need a blood transfusion, whilst avoiding inappropriate use ofblood components, and promote alternatives to transfusion. To raise awareness of, and improve, the safety issues surrounding transfusion. This will be achieved by Education, Clinical Audit and by using Risk Management Strategies in a proactive way.
To lead on the introduction of new developments within the blood transfusion service, which affect ULTH staff.
The post holder will lead on the auditing of transfusion protocols and procedures to help disseminate best practice.
There are two posts, one based in the North and one based in the South of the County. The two posts holders will work closely together to provide a pan Trust service whilst taking into account differing individual site needs. Each post holder will provide cover for the opposite area when required and travel to appropriate sites as needed

Both Trusts will retain their separate statutory names and legal obligations.
The Group will be known as Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group (LCHG).
