Job summary

The post of the Porter Supervisor is to oversee and co-ordinate the provision of an efficient, high quality and cost effective portering service to all Wards and Departments on site under the direction of the Team Leader and Facilities Manager, and to promote excellent standards of team working and Customer Care.

Leading the portering team in delivering high quality services to all areas; supporting the delivery of service modernisation and National Initiatives.

Note: This vacancy will have a start date after 01/05/2025

Main duties of the job

You will be seen across the site and will be required to carry out your work so that the standards set and the wide range of services provided support patient care and the needs of other hospital users.

The post holder is expected to treat patients, service users and carers with courtesy, care and compassion at all times, treating each person as an individual by offering a personalised service. Trust staff will adopt behaviours and attitudes which promote, supports and respects privacy and dignity in accordance with the Trust Dignity policies and dignity in care pledges. Staff are expected to challenge poor practice in relation to dignity and treat each other with respect.

Pilgrim Hospital is situated beautiful countryside and serves the communities in the South Lincolnshire area. It provides all major specialties and a 24-hour major accident and emergency service.

Grantham and District Hospital serves the communities of Grantham and the local area. It provides ambulatory paediatric and accident and emergency services.

Lincoln Hospital is a thriving university city and with the opening of the medical school, it provides all major specialties and a 24-hour major accident and emergency service

United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust has been granted teaching hospital status, after demonstrating evidence to significant teaching commitment. From now on it will be known as United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) and United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) have come together in a Group arrangement, with the goal of improving the care provided to patients across the county.

This will not constitute a formal merger of the two organisations, but will bring the Trusts together under a single Board and Executive Leadership Team, with the goal of improving the care that is provided to patients both in the community and in hospitals across Lincolnshire. Both Trusts will retain their separate statutory names and legal obligations.

The Group will be known as Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group (LCHG).

Knowlege, Skills & Apitudes

Essential

  • Literacy, numeracy and comprehension skills sufficient to complete timesheets and monitoring documents, produce memos and short reports, complete Annual Appraisal documentation
  • Able to demonstrate ability to take the lead role of supervising part of an inter-disciplinary team
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to work to deadlines and complete tasks according to objectives and to motivate others to do the same
  • Able to demonstrate the ability to use initiative to resolve problems and to prioritise own workload and that of others
  • Able to demonstrate a high standard of interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with people from all sections of society

Desirable

  • Keyboard/computer skills: no formal qualification is necessary but the ability to produce short text documents and/or enter data onto spread sheets would be an advantage
  • Coaching skills

  • Able to demonstrate a flexible approach to changes in workload/duties/priorities and to motivate others to adopt the same approach
  • Able to react sensitively to a wide range of differing needs

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2, or above, in Customer Care
  • Health and Safety qualifications/training.
  • Training qualification or similar.

Experience

Essential

  • Previous NHS experience or experience of working in a high level customer service environment
  • Experience in a logistics background in either a integrated/logistics service related area.

Desirable

  • Previous Supervisory experience.
  • Previous Portering, Security or similar relevant experience.
  • Experience of storage and movement of medical gas cylinders
  • Experience of using CCTV equipment
  • Previous Mail services experience
  • Previous experience in waste handling.
