Job summary

Gastrointestinal Endoscopy services are provided across ULHT at Lincoln, Boston, Grantham, and Louth. All hold JAG accreditation and collaborate closely to provide a high-quality service. The Lincolnshire Bowel Cancer Screening Programme is well established, and lists are supported at Lincoln, Boston, and Grantham.To support further expansion and development within the service, including Bowel Screening age extension, the addition of a 2nd procedure room at Louth and a new Endoscopy unit on the Lincoln site we are expanding the Clinical Endoscopist Team.

Hands on training will be provided in either OGD or colonoscopy across all four sites and the successful candidate will be expected to travel (sometimes at short notice). Training is provided in collaboration with the Midlands Endoscopy Training Academy subject to successful application for the September 2024 cohort. Training will be full time; the academic element is at Master's level and you will be supported by a clinical supervisor and a senior nurse mentor.

Following JAG accreditation and a period of consolidation, you will be given the opportunity to train in the other GI endoscopic modality. You will be expected to complete the Independent Prescribing Certificate to facilitate independent prescribing of medications (including intravenous fentanyl) and encouraged to undertake the MSc Programme in Advanced Clinical Practice.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for highly motivated registered health professionals who are ready to take on the challenge of intensive training in a highly technical skill, and the theoretical knowledge required for the assessment, diagnosis and initial management of GI disease. Ideally you will have a background in colorectal, gastroenterology or related field, possess a health-related degree or equivalent and be able to demonstrate that you have studied at degree level within the last 5 years.

You will be able to work on your own initiative and possess excellent organisational, verbal and non-verbal communication skills. Experience at Band 6 or 7 or equivalent experience of managing a team, is an advantage.Applications are invited from Registered Adult Nurses and Allied Health Professionals registered with the HCPC who are able to train as independent prescribers as above.

Once competent you will be expected to travel across the trust to provide independent flexible 7 day endoscopy services and will work unsupervised. You will work within local and national guidelines to diagnose and if appropriate, initiate management of, GI disease, referring on for further tests where indicated. You will liaise with the multidisciplinary team to provide a seamless service for patients and to meet the faster diagnosis standard for those undergoing investigations for suspected cancer.
