Job summary

The post of the Housekeeping Supervisor is to oversee and co-ordinate the provision of an efficient, high quality and cost effective Housekeeping service to all Wards and Departments on site and, where applicable, to off-site locations, under the direction of the Team Leader and Facilities Manager, and to promote excellent standards of team working and Customer Care.

Ensuring that hospital Wards, Clinics and Departments are maintained to the highest standards of hygiene, environmental cleanliness and appearance and leading the Housekeeping team in delivering high quality services to all areas; supporting the delivery of service modernisation and National Initiatives.

Main duties of the job

You will be seen across the site and will be required to carry out your work so that the standards set and the wide range of services provided support patient care and the needs of other hospital users.

The post holder is expected to treat patients, service users and carers with courtesy, care and compassion at all times, treating each person as an individual by offering a personalised service. Trust staff will adopt behaviours and attitudes which promote, supports and respects privacy and dignity in accordance with the Trust Dignity policies and dignity in care pledges. Staff are expected to challenge poor practice in relation to dignity and treat each other with respect.

Essential

  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or equivalent in-house course

Desirable

  • oSupervisory qualification
  • oNVQ Level 2, or equivalent, in Cleaning Buildings and Interiors
  • oHealth and Safety qualifications/training
  • oNVQ Level 3 in Customer Care
  • oD32/33 Training qualification or similar.

Experience

Essential

  • oPrevious NHS experience or experience of working in a high level customer service environment.

Knowledge, Skills & Aptitudes

Essential

  • oLiteracy, numeracy and comprehension skills sufficient to complete timesheets and monitoring documents, calculate costs of orders, produce memos and short reports, complete Annual Appraisal documentation.
  • oAble to demonstrate ability to take the lead role of supervising part of an inter-disciplinary team
  • oAble to demonstrate the ability to work to deadlines and complete tasks according to objectives and to motivate others to do the same.
  • oAble to demonstrate the ability to use initiative to resolve problems and to prioritise own workload and that of others.
  • oAble to demonstrate a high standard of interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with people from all sections of society.
  • oAwareness and Knowledge of the dignity in care agenda.
