This new role provides individuals without any previous experience the opportunity to start their career within our Aseptic Services Team located at Boole Technology Centre in Lincoln.
NHS Pharmacy aseptic services in England provide sterile controlled environments for the preparation of injectable medicines for patients. They are an essential cornerstone of many critical NHS services. They make the chemotherapy that treats cancer patients, the intravenous feed that keeps very sick children and those with intestinal failure alive and the innovative medicines that target complex diseases.
As a Pharmacy Services Assistant Apprentice, you will embark on a 15month apprenticeship where you will receive on-the-job training for the role. You will assist the Pharmacists and Technicians in the delivery of an effective and safe Aseptic Service, carrying out tasks such as assisting with the aseptic dispensing of products and completion of paperwork, sanitising raw materials and equipment for use in clean room areas, labelling medication, and assisting with stock control.
Main duties of the job
Full training will be provided throughout the apprenticeship, enabling the post holder to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies required of the role. Duties will include the following:
- To undertake all training and education as required of the post.
- To maintain all the necessary competencies, including but are not limited to valid hand washing, gowning, transfer, dispensing, operator broth tests, in-process checking and cleaning validations.
- To set up raw materials, consumables and equipment for all products in accordance with defined operating procedures.
- To accurately and consistently assist/participate in the aseptic dispensing of products and completion of associated paperwork.
- To label, package and distribute medication in accordance with defined operating procedures.
- To assist in stock control, checks, ordering levels, and storage of medicines.
- To assist in the ordering of patient specific and batch pre-prepared aseptic products.
- To assist with accurate stock rotation, stock takes and expiry date checks are carried out.
- To sanitise raw materials and equipment for use in clean room areas.
- To assist with general housekeeping duties such a cleaning trays, stock checking and filing.
- To maintain safe systems of work at all times.
- To demonstrate good communication skills and practice good teamwork.
