Job summary

As part of United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust's commitment to meeting the health care needs of the local population, applications are invited for the post of an LAS ST3 in Trauma & Orthopaedics at Lincoln County Hospital.

This is a fixed-term Specialty Doctor post in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery for the United Lincolnshire Hospitals (ULH) NHS Trust. The appointee will be based at Lincoln County Hospital and will be involved in elective operating and clinics at other sites within United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust including Grantham and Louth Hospitals. The post is for six months initially but may be extended.

The Appointee will assist the Orthopaedic Consultants to provide a comprehensive Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery service for Lincoln, Grantham, Louth and surrounding areas. The successful applicant will be involved in both elective and trauma services. On call will be at middle grade level on a 1 in 14 basis (non-resident) with prospective cover.

Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the Job Plan will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The post is an average 40 hours per week middle-grade post with duties undertaken primarily at Lincoln County Hospital with regular clinics at peripheral sites including Grantham and Louth. The appointee will be responsible for the management of elective and emergency patients and would be expected to be able to perform common trauma procedures under supervision. The post-holder will be assigned to a consultant but should be prepared to work as required within the Department. There is a 1 in 14 on-call commitment with prospective on-call cover for the other non-training middle-grade surgeons. Although this post is not recognised for training it could prove useful to candidates who have completed basic surgical training and wish to acquire hands-on surgical experience while awaiting a Specialist Registrar appointment.

Applicants must have at least three years medical work post registration with at least 2 years experience in Orthopaedic Surgery. A post-graduate qualification in Surgery/Orthopaedic Surgery is desirable

About us

Lincoln County has 13 substantive consultants and has 3 Grantham consultants that are a part of the Lincoln rota. They have a 1:14 on call rota.

The F2 Doctors are on a Full Shift rota and the other doctors (middle grades) are allocated to a consultant and work a non-resident on-call rota.
