We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our dynamic Oncology team. This role is predominantly based on the Bostonian covering the Oncology Assessment Unit (OAU), reviewing and treating patients who are undergoing cancer treatment. We take oncology and haematology referrals directly from GPs, A&E and Chemotherapy Suite.
During operational hours an Advanced Care Practitioner (ACP) or Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in the OAU will be responsible for providing: -
- Senior clinical advice as to the suitability of patients to receive their care in OAU
- Daily morning 'huddle' with OAU staff to review capacity, resourcing and any operational issues, risks or concerns
The advert is aimed at recruiting into a trainee Band 7 ACP post.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will need have a real drive to personally develop the needs of the service and be self-motivated in order to engage effectively within the multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate must demonstrate experience of leading and developing practice in addition to being pro-active and having an innovative approach to initiating and sustaining change management. Experience of clinical decision making is essential to the role.

Job responsibilities
Predominantly the role is based on the Bostonian involving clerking patients who present with oncology issues, formulating appropriate management plans and requesting appropriate investigations. Plans are amended accordingly depending on investigation findings and patients are either managed as an outpatient or admitted.
The role for the ward ACP is to support the OAU areas on the wards, develop skills to enable the ACP to independently lead OAU ward rounds. There will be further development opportunities also as the role progresses. It is envisaged that the service will evolve to 7 day working and you will form part of a rota.
