Job summary
PILGRIM EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT are seeking HCSW(s). This is a great opportunity to work in a fast paced and everchanging environment whereby two days are never the same. The successful candidate(s) will be required to work both the day and night shifts which will include bank holiday and weekend working.
The successful candidate will work alongside a registered nurse delivering personal care, sufficient hourly rounding as well as assisting with nutritional intake. We strive to ensure a positive experience for our patients and we appreciate that the HCSW role is a key part in delivering this high quality care.
After a settling in period, all newly appointed HCSWs will be supported to gain further extended skills such as venepuncture, cannulation and the recording of ECGs.

Main duties of the job
The Emergency Department at Pilgrim Hospital is seeking to recruit Health Care Support Workers to join the team.
As a Health Care Support Worker, you will be responsible for working under delegation and supervision of a Registered Nurse in delivering a high standard of care to our patients in accordance with individualise care needs, utilising flexible, innovate and effective practice that demonstrates that our patients are at the centre of everything we do.
Working the multi-disciplinary team, the successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be adaptable to rapidly changing situations, as well as having understanding of the need for confidentiality. The individual should have the ability to work using their own initiative and as part of a team. Good time management and organisational skills are also essential for the post. Effective communication skills and motivation to work in a clinical environment are essential.
About us
The department has a designated clinical educator and substantial senior nursing team that will provide continual support to newly appointed staff and thereafter.
As a substantive member of the healthcare team, you will be required to complete the Care Certificate unless the successful applicant has NVQ level 3. Full support from a dedicated apprenticeship team, will be provided to achieve this.
Successful substantive Healthcare Support Workers could also benefit from further training opportunities which form part of the ULHT Nursing Career Development Pathway which can ultimately lead to becoming a Registered Nurse.
