Nursing associate is a new role being introduced into the health and care workforce in England from 2019. Nursing associates are intended to bridge a gap between health and care assistants, and registered nurses Nursing associates act in the best interests of people, putting them first and providing nursing care that is person-centred, safe and compassionate Nursing associates play an active role as members of interdisciplinary teams, collaborating and communicating effectively with nurses, a range of other health and care professionals and lay carers Nursing associates contribute to the provision of care for people, including those with complex needs.

Main duties of the job

Scampton is an elderly care ward with 20 beds. Scampton specializes in the care of those elderly patients that have complex care needs and those that have also been diagnosed with a cognitive impairment such as Dementia or Alzheimer's. We also have a special interest in those patients that have been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.

Scampton prides itself in taking a holistic approach to each individual patient and their care needs. With having our Occupational and Physiotherapists on the ward means that we are able to work very closely with them to ensure that the patients are referred and assessed in a timely manner ensuring the patients stay in hospital is kept to a minimum.

  • oRegistered Nursing Associate on the NMC register
  • oNursing Associate Foundation Degree or equivalent
  • oGCSE Grade A-C in Maths & English or skills level 2 or equivalent

Previous Experience

  • oExperience of working in teams under appropriate supervision as part of the multi-disciplinary team
  • oInsight on how to evaluate own strengths and development needs seeking advice where appropriate
  • oExperience of providing and receiving complex sensitive information

Knowledge, skills, aptitudes

  • oAwareness and Knowledge of the dignity in care agenda.
  • oUnderstanding of the scope of the role of the nursing associate in the context of the nursing and broader healthcare team.

  • oKnowledge of when to seek advice and escalate to the appropriate professional for expert advice and help
