Job summary
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to manage our friendly and dedicated team of newborn hearing screening staffbased in the maternity unit at the Hull Women and Children's Hospital.
The Newborn Hearing Screening Programme (NHSP) aims to identify babies born with a hearing problem at an early age. As part of the nationalprogramme, the local manager would be leading a dedicated team of 8 hearing screeners and 1 administrative assistant offering a hearing screento approximately 5,500 babies shortly after birth, in hospital or in local clinics across the Hull & East Yorkshire area.
Previous experience involving NHSP or Local manager training is preferred, although training can be provided via the NHSP e-learning course, inhouse training and external clinical assessment. The appointment would be conditional on successful completion of this required training. Applicants may be expected to attend the final part of their screener training at a venue outside of the local area.
The successful candidate must be flexible to work different shift patterns as the current vacancy advertised is for 30 hours across 4 days per week(3 weekdays managerial and one day a week screening as part of the rota). The screening team work across 7 days: this includes Saturdays,Sundays and all Bank Holidays except Christmas Day and New Year's Day. The Screener's current working day is 7am-3pm.
Main duties of the job
Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification and/or experience is essential with evidence of previous management or leadershipexperience. Suitable applicants will have a post-graduate diploma qualification or equivalent specialist knowledge.
Previous knowledge of hearing problems and working with children and parents is preferred with a working knowledge of safeguarding and childprotection procedures.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Applicants should also have a good knowledge of HR procedures, performancemonitoring and audit, writing of policies and procedures and a broad range of IT skills. Individuals will also be required to perform the screen usingspecialized equipment, record, collect data and liaise with parents and professionals.
This post may involve travelling between screening sites and attendance may be required at external venues for national training and updates so a driving licence and use of a car, or reasonable alternative means of transport, is essential.
