Job summary
The Senior Technician (Specialist Services - Medical Gas) is responsible for supporting the safe operation, maintenance and statutory compliance of Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS) across Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
The post holder will undertake planned and reactive maintenance activities, support system fault response and participate in the coordination of system shutdowns and isolations, ensuring continuity of supply to critical clinical areas.
The role will act as a technical specialist within the Estates team, providing guidance and support to maintenance staff, contractors and clinical teams, and contributing to compliance with HTM 02-01 and associated governance requirements.
The post holder will also support ongoing compliance programmes, including asset verification, maintenance of records, and audit activities, ensuring that medical gas systems and associated equipment remain safe, reliable and fit for purpose.
Main duties of the job
Undertake planned, reactive and corrective maintenance on Medical Gas Pipeline Systems (MGPS) and associated plant, ensuring compliance with HTM 02-01. Support delivery of PPM programmes, inspections, testing and audit activities, maintaining accurate records.
Respond to faults, alarms and system failures, carrying out fault diagnosis and remedial actions to maintain continuity of supply. Support planned and emergency shutdowns, isolations and reinstatement of systems across critical clinical areas.
Act as a technical specialist for medical gas systems, providing advice and support to Estates staff, contractors and clinical teams, ensuring works are carried out safely and in accordance with HTM guidance.
Provide day-to-day support and mentoring to maintenance staff and assist in coordinating contractor activities.
Support maintenance and inspection of medical gas-related equipment and devices, liaising with clinical teams and Medical Physics where appropriate.
Assist with compliance programmes including audits and asset verification, and participate in the on-call rota to support service continuity.

- Hold a minimum of a Degree and specialist knowledge or equivalent level of knowledge - for example acquired through completion of a recognised trade apprenticeship and hold a BTEC/HNC/Diploma in Engineering or equivalent City & Guilds qualification with intermediate practical and theoretical knowledge acquired through a diploma or equivalent experience.
- To have completed or be working towards Accredited HTM 02-01 Medical Gas Pipeline Systems Competent Person (CP) and/or Authorised Person (AP) Course.
