Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Assistant Psychologist Staff Support Psychology

The closing date is 14 April 2026

Job summary

This post is the chance to be part of an exciting development working with our Medical Education team to improve the experience of Resident Doctors in the Trust. This role is based within a Staff Support Psychology team which is part of a thriving Psychological Services department. As part of a wider staff support service you will get a broad range of experiences to support your career development and contribute to a trust wide service.

The specialist part of this post will focus on close working with the Medical Education Team. The initiative stems from a recently developed devolved model of support for medical trainees by NHSE Education Yorkshire and the Humber.

The role will provide active outreach to medical trainees to increase confidence with accessing staff support services, provide initial low-intensity psychological interventions when appropriate and gather intelligence about the future service developments. The role will help support the education of medical trainees in mental wellbeing and accessing support. It will also help to promote the use of services such as psychological debriefing post incident which doctors are less likely to use compared to other professions.

The role will also provide the opportunity to help design better induction experiences for trainees including international medical graduates (IMGs). We aim to develop a wider range of support for our IMGs to help reduce any differentials in attainment compared to UK medical graduates.

Main duties of the job

You will be working under the supervision of the responsible Clinical Psychologist to provide 1:1 Low Intensity Psychological Interventions, to staff across the Hospitials' Trust. You will also have the opportunity to facilitate group work such as peer support and post incident groups and to provide psycho- educational presentations to staff especially within medical education.

As part of the specialist Medical Education (MEC) role in this post you will provide a first point for contact for this staff group and work between MEC and the Psychology team to improve uptake and development of support. You will be expected to contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the impact of this post and will have the opportunity for other involvement in small scale research and Quality Improvements projects as part of this post.

As well as working closely with Staff Support Psychology and MEC you will develop relationships with the wider staff support multidisciplinary team within the trust, which includes Occupational Health, Pastoral and Spiritual Care and Organisational Development
