We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our nephrology team as soon as possible until 1stSeptember 2026 in a 50% WTE role working at the level of a first year renal specialty trainee (ST4+). Youwill work alongside a team of renal consultants, FY1-ST7 resident doctors and specialist nurses.Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust provides extensive kidney services for a population of 1.10million across a large geographical area extending into both East Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire.Acute kidney services are provided centrally in Hull, with weekly outreach clinics and chronic satellitehaemodialysis support to Grimsby and Scunthorpe, with fortnightly clinics in Goole, weekly clinics inBridlington with support to the Bridlington Satellite unit. We have also expanded our inpatient service tofacilitate haemodialysis for long term patients at Castle Hill Hospital. The locally employed doctor will onlybe expected to work at the Hull Royal Infirmary site.HUTH NHS Trust has successfully worked in partnership with Fresenius to provide haemodialysis for longterm haemodialysis patients throughout the service including plasma exchange.Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust provides care for patients both pre and post transplantation.Although the actual transplant episode is carried out in Leeds, the pre transplant work up and all posttransplantafter care at the point of discharge from Leeds is carried out in Hull and its satellite clinics.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work at the equivalent of ST4 or above, supervised by a qualified NHSconsultant. The work plan will be tailored to suit the trainee's educational objectives.The locally employed doctor will work in the following clinical areas; the 19 bed nephrology ward (ward 50);the renal outreach team providing supervision of patients with Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) on the ICU andgeneral medical patients on outlying wards; and lastly outpatient clinics. Procedural duties will include dialysisline insertion and renal biopsies and full training in these procedures will be given.All specialist registrars will have an outpatient commitment and have the opportunity to attend Transplant,Transplant Work-up, Low Clearance, Haemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis clinics as well as GeneralNephrology clinics. The Consultant working patterns are closely integrated, and a similar level of mutualsupport and team-working is required from the middle grade staff.You will also be part of the on call medical registrar rota (full shift rota) covering the Acute Assessment Unit,in reaching into the Emergency Department and covering the Same Day Emergency Care Unit.
