Hull University Teaching Hospitals are seeking to recruit a Band 3 Therapy Assistant to join our diverse team of allied health professionals and support staff who work within the Trauma Orthopaedics / Major Trauma at Hull Royal Infirmary

The post holders will work alongside colleagues to support the further assessment and rehab of patients referred for acute / complex rehabilitation post accident or injury including Major Trauma. As a Therapy Assistant you will have direct input in the treatment of patients who present within acute care, delivering evidence based interventions to facilitate recover, promote well-being and optimise independent functioning as far as reasonably possible in all areas of life

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic team member to complement our Therapy Service with Trauma Orthopaedics / Major Trauma although there may be a requirement to be able to work at any site and within any clinical area within the Trust.

The post holder will be required to work 37.5 hours Monday - Friday in order to support with the progression of patients' rehab in addition to contributing to a 1:5 weekend rota.

This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic person to gain or further develop their experience working as a Therapy Assistant to provide support to Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists in carrying out delegated duties. In addition, the post holder will assist in undertaking clerical and administrative duties directly related to patient care including mobility aids and clinical supplies.

An NVQ level 3 in Care or equivalent is desirable .

  • Qualification in relevant healthcarerelated topic to level 3 or equivalent (i.e. NVQ level 3, A levels, Access to Higher Education Diploma)

Desirable

  • Demonstrable evidence of completion of relevant UK workbased mandatory training modules in topics such as moving and handling, food hygiene, dementia awareness, safeguarding

Experience

Essential

  • Previous/current experience of a working in a UK-based health, therapy or care setting (e.g. therapy assistant, nursing assistant, clinical support worker, care assistant)
  • Evidence of working within a multidisciplinary team

Desirable

  • Demonstrable evidence of completion of OT/Physio assistant competencies in the UK
  • Previous use or awareness of assistive equipment i.e. hoists, walking aids in a UK-based health-care setting

Skills, knowledge and ability

  • Demonstrates a good basic understanding of the Therapy Assistant role being applied for and able to articulate this in the application
  • Good communication skills both with colleagues and service users
