Clinical Technologist (Radiotherapy Equipment)

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to join our friendly and dedicated Equipment Engineering team within the Radiotherapy Physics department based in the Queens Centre at Castle Hill Hospital; Cottingham. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has an interest in advancing their career in engineering.

We provide maintenance and technical support for specialised equipment used for Radiotherapy. The department has six Varian linear accelerators (two Halcyon and four TrueBeam), two Siemens CT scanners, an Xstrahl superficial radiotherapy unit, a Flexitron brachytherapy afterloader and a Papillon contact radiotherapy machine. As well as the machines used directly for patient care, the team are responsible for the maintenance of test equipment used for servicing and quality control. The department was the first Radiotherapy Physics service to gain UKAS accreditation to the emerging BS70000 MPACE quality standard, evidencing that commitment to delivery of high quality clinical service is a core value of the team, and we continue to maintain ISO9001 certification for the entire Radiotherapy service.

Main duties of the job

You will be part of a team of clinical technologists working together to service, maintain and repairradiotherapy treatment and radiation monitoring equipment. You will be expected to participate in a rangeof activities including:

  • Faultfinding, emergency repair, calibration and maintenance of a range of specialist, high-valueradiotherapy treatment and radiation monitoring equipment. Ensuring equipment is calibrated tomanufacturers and radiation protection standards, to operate effectively and safely with the minimumdowntime.
  • Support for advanced Radiotherapy computer systems.
  • Provide supervision of, and training for, other staff working in the team.
  • Provide support to scientific staff in development of the service and the implementation of newtechniques into routine clinical practice.
