Job Summary

  • The Patient Flow Support Officer will be expected to work as part of the team under the direction of the department Nurse in charge and Team Leader, to ensure the smooth flow of patients through the department. It is expected that by co-ordinating administrative tasks, and liaising with other departments, the post holder will contribute to the efficient and effective running of the department resulting in a significant reduction in patient journey times.
  • To aid in discharge and patient transfer.
  • The post holder will be expected to maintain confidentiality and adopt a positive attitude towards staff, patients and relatives at all times.
  • The post holder will offer support, guidance and minimal nursing intervention for both patients and relatives.

Key Working Relationships

  • Working in partnership with the Nurse in Charge, the post holder will maintain the computer based system for patient flow and ensure tests are ordered and carried out at appropriate times.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a dynamic, highly motivated person to support the patient flow throughout their Emergency Department Journey.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Emergency Department Nurse in charge and multi disciplinary team supporting the management of all attendances, admissions and discharges for emergency department patients by facilitating an efficient, effective and timely management of patient's diagnostics, decisions and utilisation of beds and resources in order to create efficient flow through the ED.

You will develop close working relationships with clinical and non-clinical staff ensuring you demonstrate a professional manner and personal confidence.

You will need to be highly self-motivated, organised individual to join our fast paced ED.

you will have excellent communication, organisational, interpersonal skills and the ability to priorities their workload, whilst working quickly and accurately under pressure.

You must be able to demonstrate effective and appropriate IT and telephone skills.

This post is a challenging role and will involve dealing with patients, relatives, internal and external agencies.
