The Humber and Yorkshire Coast Bowel Cancer Screening Centre is seeking an experienced registered nurse to join our dedicated team. Based at Castle Hill Hospital, this full-time role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on public health across our regional footprint, which includes Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Scarborough, and parts of the Vale of York. It is very much a nurse-led service requiring the successful candidate to make complex decisions regarding participants care. Established in 2006, the centre invites individuals aged 50-74 to participate in bowel cancer screening, we also now provide surveillance colonoscopy for individuals with Lynch Syndrome, starting from age 25 or 35 depending on genetic mutation Job Summary
The successful candidate will:
- Assess participant fitness for screening investigations.
- Support informed decision-making and act as an advocate for participants.
- Deliver virtual and telephone clinics, with face-to-face appointments as clinically required.
- Attend colonoscopy sessions and MDT meetings to support care and collect data.
- Address sensitive issues, including delivering cancer diagnoses.
- Promote screening uptake and reduce health inequalities through outreach and collaboration.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for delivering clinics, including assessment, surveillance, and post-investigation appointments. These will primarily be conducted via telephone or virtual platforms, with face-to-face consultations arranged only when clinically necessary.The role covers the centre's operational footprint, and therefore a willingness to travel is essential. A valid driving licence and access to a car are required.You will be present during colonoscopy lists within designated endoscopy departments to support participants and collect relevant data. Attendance at colorectal cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings will also be required when screening patients are scheduled for discussion.The post holder will work across the centre's footprint, which includes travelling between five endoscopy units and working from the DPoW (Grimsby office) on a rotational basis. Flexibility is essential to ensure full service coverage, which may include occasional evening and weekend shifts.
