Medical Equipment Technician

Job summary

The Clinical Engineering Department provides a medical equipment management service to the Trust and various other healthcare organisations within the East Yorkshire region.

We are currently seeking a full-time Medical Equipment Technician to join the service team based at Hull Royal Infirmary.

Main duties of the job

The duties will involve, but not restricted to, acceptance testing of new equipment, electrical safety testing, carrying out routine maintenance and repairs on a wide range of medical equipment.

Applicants must have a minimum of HNC/HND (or time served equivalent) in an appropriate engineering or science discipline, or have undergone a recognised formal technical training program and have demonstrable experience of working in a technical service support role. Previous experience of working with medical equipment is desirable but not essential as suitable training will be given to the successful candidates.

Essential

  • HNC or equivalent qualification in a relevant science or engineering subject or time served equivalent experience

Desirable

  • Degree in Clinical Technology or its equivalent (eg an appropriate science or engineering degree or HNC plus a period of clinical technology training and experience - 2-3 years)
  • RCT Registered

Knowledge, Training & Experience

Essential

  • Have an understanding of mechanical, electrical/ electronic systems & instrumentation
  • Demonstrates a knowledge of electrical safety testing requirements and methods
  • Computer literate, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products

Desirable

  • Possess knowledge of electrical safety within a patient environment.
  • Understanding of medical device applications in clinical settings
  • Familiar with computer databases and data recording systems

Communication and Interpersonal Skills

Essential

  • Able to advise and train other professional staff groups in the care and operation of complex equipment (e.g. train nurses in medical device user maintenance).
  • Able to develop internal and external networks and relationships
  • Able to communicate complex information across professional boundaries, confidently and persuasively
