Job summary

The Group Head of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering (MPCE) has corporate responsibility and accountability for the overall management and leadership of the MPCE Division within the Humber Health Partnership (HHP) Group providing strategic direction and expert leadership.

The MPCE Division encompasses the following services: -

  • Clinical Engineering which operates across four sites: Hull Royal Infirmary (HRI), Castle Hill Hospital (CHH), Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital (DPOW), Scunthorpe General Hospital (SGH).
  • Nuclear Medicine Physics providing scientific and technical support for Nuclear Medicine imaging and therapies which operates across three sites: HRI, CHH, and DPoW.
  • Radiopharmacy and the Molecular Imaging Research Centre (MIRC) that provide routine and research radiopharmaceuticals to Nuclear Medicine.
  • Radiation Protection and Radiology Physics services that provide scientific and technical support for imaging services and all users of ionising radiations and hazardous non-ionising radiations across the Group as well as partners including over 300 private customers.
  • Radiotherapy Physics service that provides the scientific and technical support for cancer radiation therapy.
  • Rehabilitation Engineering that provides bespoke support to patients with life changing and progressing disabilities across the Humberside region.

The MPCE Division comprises of approximately 140 engineers, scientists, technicians and support staff.

Main duties of the job

You will provide management and expert scientific leadership to the MPCE Division, ensure that effective services are provided to the Group, its partners and clients and to develop these services both scientifically and technically in response to changes in clinical workload and practice, equipment development and statutory requirements. You will initiate, undertake and support research and development in the above fields commensurate with the achievement of clinical objectives and in promotion of best international practice.

You will lead the Divisional Triumvirate and Chair the MPCE Divisional Board, to provide assurance (to the Care Group Board) of a well-led, safe, caring, and effective and responsive Division that provides high quality support for the care of patients in the Yorkshire and Humber area. This managerial leadership includes active management of Financial, Governance and HR targets. You will ensure the Divisional services remain fit for purpose against external and internal challenges and influences, such as workforce, economic and legislative drivers by leading on Divisional strategy and supporting operational implementation.
