Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a full-time Sister/Charge Nurse in the Interventional Radiology Theatres department at Hull Royal Infirmary.

We are seeking a Registered Nurse with proven leadership skills to manage a team of registered and non-registered nurses to ensure the highest standards of nursing care. The post-holder will be an effective role model with at least 5 years post-registration experience, of which at least 1 year must be at Band 6 level. Ideally they will have Interventional Radiology experience.

Hull Royal includes busy vascular, neuro and non-vascular services. The department also has a day unit to recover patients after undergoing interventional procedures. The department treats both inpatients and outpatients, electively and acutely and works alongside other modalities within radiology, including fluoroscopy, CT, ultrasound and MRI. The department also provides 24/7 on call provision for it's vascular and non-vascular patients, this will include neuro thrombectomy in the future. Interventional Radiology is an ever-changing speciality and the post-holder will be required to manage improvement projects and support and develop staff through changes.

Excellent communication skills are essential to deal with patients and other health professionals and administration staff, both within the multi-disciplinary department and across the trust and wider group. The successful post-holder must uphold the trust values of Compassion, Honesty, Respect and Teamwork.

Main duties of the job

Ensuring the highest standard of patient care and safety through delivery of clinical duties and management responsibilities.

Overseeing the day-to-day running of the department, liaising with other departments and within the multi-disciplinary team

Managing the nursing team to include rostering, HR issues, absence management, recruitment and retention, staff development, appraisal and NMC revalidation and budgetary management.

Involvement in audits at department level and trust wide.

Leading change management.
