Main duties of the job

The post holder is responsible for supporting the effective running of the department, providing clinical leadership and managerial support in the absence of the Senior Sister/ Charge Nurse, working as a highly skilled member of the multidisciplinary perioperative team, practising a high standard of clinical care and being key to improving the patient's experience.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop their skill set in specific Ophthalmic Procedures to facilitate the throughput of Ophthalmic Surgical Patients. They will also play a key role in maintaining Anaesthetic continuity within the Department. Full training and support will be provided by our experienced team of Ophthalmic Consultants alongside members of the Trust Anaesthetic Team.

The Hull and East Yorkshire Eye hospital is based in the campus of the Hull Royal Infirmary site. Since it was built in 2002, the Eye Hospital has continued to have significant investment and now offers integrated outpatient and inpatient facilities.

The Ophthalmic Theatre Department consists of Three Modern Operating Theatres Supported by an 8 bay Recovery Department. The Department also boasts a new Refractive Suite which is situated within the Day case Area. The majority of the many Surgical Operations performed within the Department are Day case procedures, covering many specialisms within this complex Speciality.
