This post will enable the successful candidate to undertake training in diagnostic ultrasound with the goal of fulfilling the job description of a sonographer on completion of this 12-month programme. Upon successful completion, you will hold a Postgraduate diploma in ultrasound and will be able to practice as an ultrasound practitioner.
The post holder will have their clinical placement with HUTH and the University of Leeds will provide academic taught content in obstetrics, gynaecological and general medical examinations as well as physics and technology and professional issues.

Main duties of the job
- To undertake practical training and assessment in medical ultrasound examinations.
- To complete the academic content and assessment required of the Postgraduate Diploma provided by the agreed Higher Education Institution - University of Leeds.
- To attend a minimum of 80% of the taught academic modules.
- To work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing a high quality diagnostic ultrasound service whilst maintaining high standards of patient care.
- To ensure that practice is undertaken in accordance with department policies and protocols.
- To undertake all ultrasound procedures delegated by the advanced practitioners and acquire a good level of skill and knowledge in all aspects of ultrasound encountered on the departmental rotation.
The department operates between 8.00 am and 18.00 and a WTD compliant shift system is in place between these hours over 7 days. The applicant will be expected to travel to multiple different sites across the NLAG patch.
Commitment to this post is required on a 7-day rotation starting at 8.00am. The post holder will only be given their academic placement if they are accepted onto the course by the University of Leeds.
Progression is dependent upon completion of all academic modules. Failure to complete will result in the post holders contract being terminated.
The role is subject to a period of probation and your contract can be terminated if you do not progress of meet the terms of your probation.
