Job summary

We are looking for an experienced radiation protection technologist with leadership skills to join our expanding Radiation Protection & Radiology Physics team within the Medical Physics Service based at Hull University Teaching Hospitals as our Chief Radiation Protection Technologist.

The team currently comprises of seven physicists, three band 6 technologists (plus this new post) and three trainees, including a PTP technologist apprentice trainee. We are based at Castle Hill Hospital on the slopes of the Yorkshire Wolds, and provide physics support to the acute Trusts either side of the Humber Estuary, as well as other trusts and private providers, for a wide range of specialisms including radiology, nuclear medicine and radiotherapy. We support a substantial number of private dental clinics and veterinary centres over a large part of England.

Main duties of the job

  • Lead the radiation protection technologist team under the Principal Physicist responsible for the X-ray Survey
  • Provide, develop and manage on a day to day basis a programme of radiation and image quality measurement and testing
  • Undertake testing of imaging equipment, test equipment, and other medical devices covered by the team
  • Provide radiation protection and image quality advice to clients, under the overall direction of RPAs and MPEs
