Job summary

Applications are invited for an Ilizarov Limb Reconstruction and Bone Infection fellow based at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Hull, UK for the duration of 6 months with potential to increase it for 12 months. The intended start date is April 2024.This is a senior post and would best suit senior trainees at pre-consultant, post CCT / junior Consultant level.Applicants must hold full GMC registration. Applicants should also possess the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, have good interpersonal skills, and have a caring attitude towards patients and evidence of good clinical practice. Previous experience in circular frame / limb reconstruction would be helpful.

This fellowship is open for UK and International trainees. The fellow will gain experience in the management of complex trauma, bone infections, non-unions and deformity planning and correction. The fellowship will provide a comprehensive and holistic approach towards limb reconstruction, including the primary and secondary care management of limb reconstruction patients. The post holder will attend the bone infection MDT and combined bone infection clinics. The multi professional bone infection clinic and MDT is jointly attended by Orthopaedic, plastics, radiologist and infectious diseases consultants.

Main duties of the job

This post includes elective and trauma lists, outpatient clinics and the provision of support to limb reconstruction nurse and physiotherapist. The post-holder will be responsible for the care of all limb reconstruction and bone infection inpatients and the provision of support to the bone infection service.

The post holder is expected to undertake research or join ongoing research and is expected to produce at least one presentation / publication during their fellowship.

The limb reconstruction team consists of three consultants, a limb reconstruction nurse and Limb reconstruction specialist physiotherapist. There are opportunities to learn ultrasound guided pain control for complex patients.
