Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

Applicants are sought for a substantive full time Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in Primary and Revision Knee Arthroplasty

The post would involve working at Hull Royal Infirmary, Castle Hill Hospital and potentially East Riding Community Hospital and Goole Hospital. The successful candidate would joint two surgeons who perform revision arthroplasty and run a revision arthroplasty MDT monthly. This is attended by radiology and microbiology consultants. There are plans to develop Revision knee Arthroplasty Centre at HUTH. There would be the opportunity to operate at Goole Hospital performing routine arthroplasty in a HVLC Elective Hub.

The basic job plan would consist of 10Pas with the option to increase to 12 PAs

The successful applicant would take part in the general orthopaedic trauma rota on a 1 in 16 basis.

The job plan would consist of a mixture of trauma and elective sessions

This post is an addition to the present 2 Orthopaedic Consultants in the unit who provide soft tissue and revision knee surgery. The successful candidate would join the general on call rota (1:16) which takes general orthopaedic on call including paediatrics but not spinal trauma. Spinal trauma is taken by neurosurgery.

Main duties of the job

The Trust wishes to appoint a substantive orthopaedic consultant to accommodate demand in the sub speciality of Knee Arthroplasty. The appointee will join the present consultants, providing elective and trauma services. At present 16 incumbent surgeons share the trauma on-call rota and it is expected that the new appointee will join this rota.

The Department provides services to the East Riding of Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and acts as a tertiary referral center for complex cases such as foot and ankle, spine, paediatrics, non-unions and pelvic injuries. Hull is a Major Trauma Centre within the Yorkshire Trauma Network. It is anticipated that the successful candidate would be comfortable to manage degenerative conditions of the knee with primary total and partial knee replacement and failed knee arthroplasty with revision knee arthroplasty.

In addition there would be an expectation that the candidate would take a leading role in trauma cases such as periarticular knee trauma with fixation of the distal femur and proximal tibia or primary arthroplasty for trauma or distal femoral replacement. Some of these cases are tertiary referrals from neighboring NHS trust hospitals.
