Job summary
Casual Senior Pharmacy Assistant, Aseptic Services
The post holder will undertake a defined series of duties on a casual basis, under the direction of the Principal/Senior Pharmacy technician and to help co-ordinate the daily Aseptic workload including but not limited to TPN and chemotherapy preparations.
You will work within standard operating procedures and contributes to the development of procedures, ensuring Pharmacy waste is disposed of in line with all current legislation and according to departmental procedure
Effectively contributes to the maintenance of appropriate stock levels of drugs and consumables within the Aseptic Unit in order to minimise waste, maintain stocks to work effectively and to ensure a Senior Pharmacy Technician in control of procurement within the Aseptic Unit when stocks are low.
Be responsible for delivering aseptically prepared items including controlled drugs to wards and clinical areas, completing the necessary documentation and secure handling chain for controlled drugs and cold chain integrity for fridge items.
Main duties of the job
- Assist in the receipt, checking and storage of pharmaceuticals reporting discrepancies to a Senior Technician.
- Ensure all goods received are in good condition and comply to standards reporting failings to a Senior Pharmacy Technician.
- Ensure process checks are carried out accurately and methodically as per procedure
- Ensures all standard operating procedures are read and acknowledged on Q Pulse where directed
- Participate in stock checks when directed, noting stock requirements, expiry dates, stock rotation and any failings reported to a Senior Pharmacy Technician.
- Investigate when directed to the correlation between actual stock and computer stock levels, note any discrepancies, and bring to the attention of the Senior Pharmacy Technician.
- To accurately "book out" ingredients to the relevant cost code in a timely manner.
- Undertake work within their own remit, if in doubt converse with a Senior Technician
- When directed to undertake QC monitoring in the form of settle and contact plate monitoring, particle counting and air sampling and complete all documentation.
- Ensures all equipment is running normally within parameters and discrepancies are notified to the Pharmacist in charge.
- Undertakes biennial-training validations including logs where directed to by a Senior Pharmacy Technician to ensure skills are kept up to date.
- Undertakes In house and where available external GMP training.
- Ensures validations and mandatory training are kept up to date.
