Job summary
The post holder will be responsible for lung health checks supported by a national protocol and training. The overall purpose of the Humber and North Yorkshire Cancer Alliance and NHS Hull Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) new NHS Targeted Lung Health Check (THLC) programme is for people who smoke, or have ever smoked, who live in Hull.
Hull was chosen as one of the 10 pilot sites, to roll out the first wave of the TLHC programme, linked to its high prevalence of smoking, deprivation and its current ranking of the highest mortality rate from lung cancer in the country. The service is now expanding into the East Riding of Yorkshire.
The targeted lung health check will help improve cancer survival rates by inviting people aged 55-74 who have been identified as being at increased risk of lung cancer for a lung health check. People will be offered a Low Radiation Dose Computed Tomography (LDCT) scan (chest scan) if appropriate, through a mobile unit.
Main duties of the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen in the NHSE Lung Health Check Programme.
The post holder will be responsible for lung health checks supported by a national protocol and training.
The targeted lung health check will help improve cancer survival rates by inviting people aged 55-74 who have been identified as being at increased risk of lung cancer for a lung health check. People will be offered a Low Radiation Dose Computed Tomography (LDCT) scan (chest scan) if appropriate, through a mobile unit.
The post holder will be expected to provide specialist knowledge and care to the patient and their carers. They will support colleagues in the effective management of patients in their specialist area who require a high level of judgement, discretion and decision making within an inpatient or outpatient setting.
The successful candidate will provide clinical supervision to other staff, and students. Provide informal/formal teaching/education to staff/patients/relevant others and thewider multidisciplinary team in primary and secondary care. And may undertake research, lead clinical audits in Lung Health Check.
This role includes multi-site working between the mobile Lung Health Check unit in Hull/East Riding and the hospital site clinical hub at Castle Hill Hospital.
