Job summary
The Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust wishes to appoint a Senior Neuro-oncology Fellow for a period of 12 months, starting in November 2023 (with some flexibility to start earlier).
The post will be ideally suited to a senior neurosurgical trainee or Post CCT trainee wishing to undertake a sub-speciality fellowship. Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the busiest elective neurosurgical spinal units in the country and provides 24/7 neurosurgery and complex spinal emergency on call service and is a Major Trauma Centre.
The Neurosurgical Department provides a regional elective and acute service across both sites of the Trust. The Fellow will be expected to provide neurosurgical on call cover at registrar level on 1 in 12 full shift rota at the Hull Royal Infirmary site. Due to training needs of the registrars within the department, the post holder will have the opportunity to train junior registrars in selected cases as well.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be exposed to all aspects of adult neuro-oncological surgery and would be expected to take the lead in running the neuro-oncology firm as much as the on call rota allows. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a unit with 3 neuro-oncology surgeons carrying out routine neuro-oncological surgery in addition to awake craniotomies, intraoperative asleep neurophysiological monitoring/mapping, and 5-ALA fluorescence guided resections.
The post holder will be expected to:
- Participate in the surgery and daily ward follow up for tumour cases.
- Attend weekly Neuro-oncology MDTs and clinics
- Participate in ongoing audit in relation to neuro-oncology, active involvement in the departmental teaching and publish in a subspecialty journal during the fellowship.
- Participate in the recruitment and data entry into national trials
All Consultants do elective degenerative spinal work and the post-holder will be expected to participate in this as needed including at Castle Hill Hospital. This post does not hold a National Training Number.
