Queens Centre Assessment unit - QCAAU, Band 6
The post holder is an experienced nurse, who acting within their professional boundaries, will provide acute care for cancer patients within a Cancer Assessment unit - (CAU). This includes co-ordinating and triaging admissions along with the medical staff, undertaking clinical assessments, diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of their care. And carrying the duty nurse bleep, they will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care for cancer patients within the Queen's Centre for Oncology and Haematology.
They will work collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary general practice team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing nurse leadership as required. Patients should know which hospital/unit to go to should they develop complications within or outside normal working hours. This post holder will be primary contact for patients they will have clear and readily accessible policies for managing complications including neutropenic sepsis.
Main duties of the job
The Queens Centre Acute Assessment unit is an exciting new building located in the Queen's Centre for Oncology & Haematology and is the receiving unit for patients who are potentially suffering from acute complications relating to their on-going cancer treatment or the disease process itself.
The unit provides a rapid assessment of Acute currently having treatment in the Queens Centre patients presenting either through:
- Self-referral
- Primary care providers / Allied Health Professional's
- Internal Care Providers
The post holderwill bean experienced nurse, who acting within their professional boundaries, will provide acute care for patients with cancer. This includes carrying the duty nurse bleep, co-ordinating and triaging admissions in conjunction with the medical staff. Also to include clinical assessment, and diagnosis in consultation with medical staff, implementation of treatment and evaluation of care. The post holderwill demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care for patients within the Queen's Centre.
