Job summary
The Progress Chaser is expected to work as part of the team under the direction of the coordinator/ward manager and Matron, to ensure the smooth flow of patients to and from the unit. It is expected that by coordinating administrative tasks, and liaising with other departments and wards and multi-disciplinary, the post holder will contribute to the efficient and effective running of the unit.
Working in partnership with the Nurse coordinator, the post holder will maintain the computer based system for patient flow and ensure tests are ordered and carried out at appropriate times.
To aid in discharge and patient transfer.
The post holder will be expected to maintain confidentiality and adopt a positive attitude towards staff, patients and relatives at all times.
The post holder will offer support, guidance and minimal nursing intervention for both patients and relatives
Main duties of the job
. Communication & Relationship Skills. Answer the phone and deal with requests for information, whilst maintaining confidentiality.
. Relaying messages to other members of staff.
. Liaise with the Emergency department and other wards to facilitate a safe efficient transfer to/from the unit.
. Where required support a patients discharge, using the computer system, completing discharge observations, removing cannulas and completing treatments if appropriate.
. As directed liaise other admitting areas with regard to bed requests and discuss potential delays with site manager.
. Bleep medical staff for specialty opinions as requested and ensures times of request and reviews are documented
. Problem solving where there are barriers in the system.
