Job summary

This is a new post to join a team providing a comprehensive service for acute medical admissions. This is a long-term substantive post aimed to provide the experience required for the successful candidate to achieve, with time, a consultant grade via the CESR route.

The acute medical services at Hull Royal Infirmary consist of an Acute Medical Unit of 38 beds and a Same Day Care Unit as well supporting an in reach service in to the emergency department. The successful applicant will join our team of 8 consultant, 5 Specialist Registrars, 18 junior doctors (FY1 - CT level) plus 4 ACPs. The applicant will be expected to take a senior role based within the department and will have opportunities to develop an area of special interest as desired. The new applicant will be expected to take an active involvement in teaching and clinical governance activities in the department.

Applicants must hold full GMC registration. MRCP qualifications desirable (MRCP Part 1 essential). UK experience essential. Applicants should also possess the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team, have good interpersonal skills, have a caring attitude to patients, have good communication skills to allow communication within different groups and must also have a commitment to continuing their medical education. Main duties of the job

This is a new full time substantive post. The applicant will be expected to take a senior role within the two main areas of acute medicine, but will also work alongside the Specialist Registrars in Acute Medicine during training. They will be working across two different areas of Acute medicine, comprising of the acute medical admissions unit and the Same Day Care Unit. They may also have to provide care for patients with the Emergency department and, if desired, there may be an opportunity to take part in the RMO on call rota.

The successful applicant will join a team of 9 substantive and 2 locum consultants in Acute medicine, managing a total bed base of 38 within the trust and the Same Day Care Unit

Both the above units are based in Hull Royal Infirmary. Acute medical unit and Same Day Care Unit are based within the ground floor of the main tower, next to the accident and emergency department and the emergency radiology facilities

The successful candidate must have 4 years postgraduate experience with at least 2 years experience in General Medicine or Acute Medicine.

The successful candidate will be based at Hull Royal Infirmary with access to the shared specialist registrars office area and secretarial support.

The successful candidate will have a named educational supervisor if they wish.
