Job summary
This role is crucial to the success of the ADHD pathway and our neurodevelopmental work more widely. The post holder will be involved in assessment and follow up monitoring of young people with suspected and diagnosed ADHD, working with them and their networks to ensure that they achieve their potential and are well supported through medication and lifestyle management at home and in education
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be using QB test, clinical assessment skills and history taking skills as part of the assessment process, and sharing their findings with MDT colleagues to aid in diagnosis. The post holder will be monitoring the effects of prescribed medication through physical checks, clinical observation and gathering of information from home and school. They will be able to assess the effectiveness of medication using a range of evidence-based parameters, and have a wide knowledge of ADHD and associated conditions to be able to act as a point of advice for young people, families, colleagues and other professionals as required.The post holder will lead psychoeducational and medication initiation groups for young people and families.The post holder will provide clinical supervision to other registered nurses, registered nurse associates, and support workers, and will have an active role in supporting students and learners.

The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner who will carry continuing responsibility for a defined caseload of young people by undertaking the following duties: To undertake assessments of individuals and their families in the designated care group with complex health presentations, including those service users presenting with higher levels of risk. To develop alongside the service user their care plan. To offer specialist nursing assessment and advice where required. To assess and manage on going risks as identified during the assessment, ensuring that this is done in collaboration with the young person and carers. To regularly review risk factors and make changes to the management of them as necessary. To contribute to the maintenance and development of the Trust nursing strategy. To ensure that clinical practice is evidence based and consistent with relevant NICE guidelines and Trust policies and procedures. To provide supervision of junior staff and trainees where appropriate. To act within the NMC code of conduct at all times.
