Job summary

Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust is preparing to open a new state-of-the-art facility. We are seeking asenior, experienced Security Lead to provide strategic oversight and assurance during the mobilisation, pre-opening, and early operational phases. This is a time-limited bank post, reporting directly to the Head of Security Services, and designed to provide flexible, high-level security leadership aligned to the hospital's phased operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, commissioning, and operationalisation of security systems including access control and CCTV.

  • Develop and implement operational security policies and procedures in line with Trust standards and statutory requirements.

  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with Trust policies, statutory obligations, and NHSE Mental Health standards.

  • Deliver on-site training to staff on security procedures, access control, incident reporting, and emergency response.

  • Support operational readiness, including workforce onboarding and site security protocols.

  • Provide expert guidance to senior teams and act as the point of escalation for security incidents.

  • Ensure all security arrangements are robust and fully operational for the hospital opening.

  • Proven experience in senior security or operational leadership, ideally in healthcare or a highly regulated environment.

Main duties of the job

  • Strategic Security Oversight

    • Provide senior security leadership during mobilisation, pre-opening, and early operational phases.

    • Report directly to the Head of Security Services and provide updates on risk, progress, and operational readiness.

  • Operational Policy Development

    • Develop, implement, and review operational security policies and procedures in line with Trust standards and statutory requirements.

    • Ensure policies are communicated effectively and embedded into operational practice.

  • Security System Commissioning

    • Oversee planning, installation, and operationalisation of security systems including access control, CCTV, and alarm systems.

    • Conduct regular audits and quality checks to ensure systems are fully functional.

  • Risk Assessment and Compliance

    • Identify, assess, and mitigate security risks across the hospital site.

    • Ensure compliance with NHS security frameworks, Health & Safety legislation, and NHSE Mental Health Performance standards.

  • On-Site Training and Staff Support

    • Deliver training to staff on security procedures, incident reporting, emergency response, and use of security systems.

    • Provide guidance and support to operational teams on security matters.

  • Incident Management and Escalation

    • Act as the senior point of contact for security incidents during the mobilisation and early operational phases.
