Job summary
This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to play a central role in the design and development of a new, innovative CAMHS inpatient model for Sussex.
Sussex is entering a pivotal phase of inpatient CAMHS transformation, with a clear ambition to strengthen quality, improve flow, and deliver care that is developmentally informed, trauma-responsive, and closely integrated with CAMHS community and acute pathways including being co-located with COAST (Crisis Outreach Acute Support Team). This role offers the opportunity to help shape the future inpatient and intensive services model, drawing on best practice, national guidance, QNIC standards, and collaborative working across the wider CAMHS system.
You will work within an established and well-supported multidisciplinary workforce, alongside senior clinical and operational leaders, contributing to service redesign, pathway development, and clinical leadership across Sussex. We are open to bespoke job planning and flexible working arrangements, including exploring a shared or portfolio role across inpatient and acute CAMHS services where this supports continuity of care, service quality, and individual preference.
This role will bring a meaningful contribution to the design of creative and innovative CAMHS inpatient and intensive services in Sussex, and includes a £45,000 Recruitment & Retention Package, bespoke job planning, relocation support (where applicable).
Main duties of the job
As Consultant Psychiatrist for Chalkhill, you will:o Provide clinical leadership for a skilled and compassionate MDT caring for young people aged 13-18 with complex needso Lead on formulation, risk management and treatment planning, working closely with families and partner agencieso Supervise junior doctors and trainees, and contribute to teaching, audit and quality improvemento Work within a supportive leadership group with strong operational and clinical management backingo Participate in the CAMHS Consultant on-call rota (1:9, with allowance for compensatory rest)
