Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Neurodevelopment Service (NDS) covering West Sussex, East Sussex and Brighton (based at East Brighton Community Mental Health Centre) providing leadership to deliver high-quality, person-centred care to adults with a suspected diagnosis of Autism; assessment and treatment for people with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) (Brighton and East Sussex only) and Tics and Tourette's. This is a new post. The post was developed to meet the need of transferring young people with ADHD from CAMHS being referred to the adult NDS service and became available due to further funding being given to the service for this cohort of patients.
Main duties of the job
The remit of the consultant psychiatrist is to work as part of the MDT and to:
Assess patients for suspected neurodevelopmental conditions
Prescribe medication for patients newly diagnosed with ADHD, titrate as required and handover prescribing to GPs as per established shared care protocols, providing specialist follow-up as outlined in NICE guidelines.
Supervise and support the Team's non-medical prescribers
Take a lead role in the MDT hub meeting and weekly whole team meeting
Build and nurture collaborative working relationships with colleagues in other services and divisions
About us
Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has been commissioned to provide Neurodevelopmental Diagnostic Services for adults (NDS). The service sits within the Specialist Services Division and interfaces with other specialist services and other geographically based divisions, including acute and urgent care services. Further to a process of consultation, NDS now operates Pan-Sussex across three hubs. The service has been operating a weekly MDT clinic since 2009. In September 2013 the clinic was expanded to include Clinical Nurse Specialists and Clinical Specialist OTs who all work in a diagnostic capacity. The Neuropsychiatry input to the service is provided by senior clinical and honorary clinical academic psychiatrists who are all leading experts in the Neurodevelopmental field. The leadership team for NDS includes a Consultant Psychologist (Clinical lead for NDS / TCAT) and a Consultant Nurse (Diagnostic Pathway Lead) and Operational Service Manager. All clinical staff receive dedicated administrative support to optimise clinical capacity.
