The Integrated Legal Team at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Paralegal to join itsteam in a key role to support the delivery of in-house case management of the most complex cases. The Team delivers expert in-house legal services across Claims, Inquests, Mental Capacity Law and Mental Health Law as well as wide-ranging Healthcare Law. This role is a key part of the ongoing development of the Integrated Legal Team to ensure the in-house legal service provision is of the highest standard in the most complex cases, trust-wide.
Main duties of the job
To provide day to day legal case management of the most complex of the Trust's cases that are subject to Coronial Investigations or Court of Protection, High Court etc proceedings. Working to ensure excellent quality complex case management including considered, compassionate clinical staff support for the duration of the applicable legal process, whilst ensuring the Trust's legal compliance, and identifying improvements and learning opportunities.

Essential
- Law degree or extensive legal experience coupled with other legal qualification.
Knowledge/Experience
Essential
- Minimum of 4 years' experience of legal case management.
- Minimum of 3 years' legal case management within or for the NHS.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience of Coronial Investigation case management.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience of case management of Court of Protection/High Court or other equivalent jurisdictions.
- Experience of analysing clinical information and other complex data.
- Experience of directly working with clinical staff at times of distress.
- Demonstrable knowledge of relevant legislation and its application.
Desirable
- Experience of attending and presenting information in a Court hearing.
Skills

- Communicating, responding to and managing highly sensitive and complex information.
- Ability to deal day-to-day with highly emotionally challenging information often involving patient death.
