Job summary
We are recruiting for an Assistant Psychologist (AP) Post in our Assessment and Treatment Service (ATS) in Bognor. We are looking for candidates with a passion for improving the lives of people living with severe and enduring mental health problems and we welcome applications from people with lived experience of mental health difficulties. As an AP, you will offer psychologically informed interventions to service users with a range of needs, and support the wider work of practitioner psychologists and psychological therapists in the team (e.g. co-facilitating groups, supporting with audits and data collection). You would also have the opportunity to learn about the other multi-professional roles in the team and support with wider team functions.
You will be joining a friendly, supportive and creative multi-disciplinary team, dedicated to providing a high-quality service. Our core business involves assessing people's mental health, providing evidence-based interventions to support their recovery and working with families and the wider systems that support our service users. We aim to help our service users live valued lives in the community and we work hard to prevent acute mental health crises resulting in inpatient admissions.
Main duties of the job
As an AP you will provide evidence-based CBT-informed interventions such as emotion management groups and graded exposure. You would receive training and regular supervision with a practitioner psychologist. You will also support the delivery of psychological interventions through data collection and analysis, audit and specific projects as needed. You would be primarily based in Bognor ATS. However, we may ask you to co-facilitate groups across the wider patch and the role may involve some travel into the Chichester area and beyond. You will have a clear job plan and support to manage your time effectively.
As part of the role you will also contribute to supporting the wider team . This could include supporting a duty worker, co-facilitating new assessments and other additional tasks as needed. This generic part of your role will take up to one day per week and will be supported by experienced colleagues. We believe this would provide a valuable opportunity to learn about the inner workings of busy community ATS teams and develop skills in assessment, risk assessment, care planning and other important skills for a career in mental healthcare.
