Job summary

An exciting opportunity has risen within the low secure unit, Sussex Partnership NHS foundation Trust at the Hellingly Centre. We are looking for a dynamic, highly motivated, and inspiring Band 5 Staff Nurse / preceptorship Nurse to join our team, Elm Ward. Someone who has a passion for exceptionally high standards of patient care, who is enthusiastic, innovative and wants to work in a service that is committed to providing individualized evidenced based care.

We are a 15 bedded male Low Secure Unit focussed on reintegrating patients back into the community. We are a patient centred ward and provide a full activity programme, including both therapeutic groups and leisure activities.

We welcome applications from both experienced and newly qualified nurses with genuine interest of working closely with patients, families, carers who will need you to demonstrate empathy and willingness to listen. You will be working with a friendly and experienced healthcare professional / MDT within our team providing high quality care for all of our patients. The successful candidate will be required to provide a patient centred care, oversee the day to day running of the wards and other hands-on nursing responsibilities.

This post offers the Trust's £4,000 Incentive for band 5-7 Nurses & Practitioners, as well as a relocation package up to a maximum of £8,000 (subject to terms and conditions).

Main duties of the job

As a staff nurse / preceptorship nurse, your responsibilities willbe to;

  • Uphold our core values of promoting openness, transparency and learning;
  • Effectively running the shift and attending regular meetings to review and monitor patients' care plans;
  • Building relationships with patients to encourage trust, while listening to and interpreting their needs and concerns;
  • Ensuring the correct administration of medication, including injections, and monitoring side effects;
  • Accurately recording patient information and communicating with other MDT staff regarding patient care needs.
  • Offer support and supervise the practice of junior staff and student Nurses in order to ensure safe and effective nursing practice within a secure environment.
  • Performing administrative duties. Involved in the screening, assessment and follow up support of patients.
  • Provide care and support to patients and families and work effectively as part of the wider Multidisciplinary team.

Work a flexible shift pattern which includes Long Days (07:00 - 19:30) and Nights (19:00 - 07:30) including weekends and bank holidays.

Elm ward is a 15 bedded ward that caters for male adults and is part of the forensic pathway. The pathway includes two medium secure male, one female medium secure and a low secure male ward. We support our patients on their individual pathways through an MDT approach. We are a motivated and responsive team managing an ever-changing environment.

The ward aims to promote recovery and rehabilitation with patients, preparing them for reintegration back into the community. There is a strong emphasis on patient involvement in their care and treatment as part of the secure recovery model. You will be part of the team that actively encourage, and continue to develop practices which will support to facilitate this.
