Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust provides mental health and learning disability care for children, young people and adults across Sussex and for children and young people in Hampshire.
The Brighton and Hove Wellbeing service offers primary care support and psychological therapies to the community of Brighton and Hove. Our interventions are diverse and evidence based, ranging from guided self-help and face-to-face or telephone support to workshop courses.
This vacancy is for a 0.6 WTE Counselling Lead (permanent) within the NHS Talking Therapies part of our service.
You will join a supportive and friendly leadership team and will work closely with our NHS talking Therapies Clinical Lead, talking Therapies Service Manager and other Senior Psychological Therapists within Talking Therapies.
You will also work with Service Managers and other Clinical Leads within the wider service. The wider multi-disciplinary team includes Admin and Data Management staff, a Service Improvement team, Primary Care Mental Health Practitioners, Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, CBT Therapists, and Counsellors
Main duties of the job
To work as a member of the clinical service/ team, providing a high quality, specialist counselling/ applied psychological consultation and therapy service to staff, clients, their families or carers.
To support psychological/counselling practice within the team through consultation, supervision, formulation and training /education, with a particular focus on the counselling team. To participate in systematic clinical governance and to offer clinical supervision and line management to counsellors, psychological therapists, assistant, trainee, more junior psychologists and other staff. To take a lead in supporting and developing psychological therapies within the team/service, particularly in the area of counselling.
To work as a member of the Talking Therapies leadership team, which will include supporting all day to day management and leadership tasks covered by equivalent 8a Senor Psychological Therapists within the service.

- A recognised post graduate/doctoral level training qualification in the application of psychological models with individuals/teams/groups/organisations. E.g. Clinical/Counselling Psychology/Counselling
- Qualification in a Talking Therapies specific counselling modality (i.e. Counselling for Depression, Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy or Interpersonal Therapy)
- One of the following professional registrations:
HCPC practitioner psychologist
UKCP (via a psychotherapy training)
BACP (evidence of substantial counselling training equivalent to the above)
- Evidence of relevant continuing professional development
- Evidence of post qualification training in clinical supervision
Desirable qualifications:
- Post-qualification training in additional Talking Therapies interventions such as EMDR/IPT/CfD/CBT/DiT
- Person Centred Experiential Counselling for Depression supervisor training
