Job summary

CAMHS CYP IAPT Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) Trainee - Band 6

Start Date in post: January 2024

Are you a CAMHS Clinician who has a passion for working with children & young people? Are you interested in training opportunities to develop your skills and work in dynamic and innovative CAMHS services?

This is an exciting opportunity for CAMHS Clinicians, particularly those with an existing core qualification such as: mental health nursing, social work, occupational therapy to join one of our well-established CAMHS teams in Sussex. The post is also open to Educational Mental Health Practitioners [EMHPs] and Children's Wellbeing Practitioners [CWPs], however these candidates will need to be 2-years post-graduation to be eligible to apply. Please note this rule also includes any other Health Education England [HEE] funded course.

This trainee Band 6 CBT post will be based in Coastal CAMHS (Worthing/Chichester)

Main duties of the job

Your week will consist of attending the one-year training course and delivering clinical work in the team to children, young people and their families. You will be well supported by a CBT supervisor and a team of clinicians. While building experience and working towards your course requirements, you will be delivering CBT for anxiety presentations, depression and PTSD, within the CAMHS pathway model of delivery.

Trainees who complete the training course will be offered a permanent post with the ability to progress to B7 upon accreditation with the BABCP.

This is a training position, please be aware that this is a dual application process where you must be employed in a RTT funded job to also receive a place on the course. If you are ineligible for the University Course, you will be unable to be offered the role. If you withdraw from an employment offer but you have accepted a University offer, you will be unable to join the course.

This is a training position and so all candidates will need to apply for both the trainee role with our organisation and the KCL Post Graduate Diploma in Child & Young Person IAPT Therapy in order to be shortlisted (for more information, please see the brochures here: https://www.annafreud.org/ucl-postgraduate-study/ucl-postgraduate-programmes/child-and-young-person-iapt-therapy-pg-dip/

Please complete your university application using the KCL University Application Guidance supplied.

Job description

Job responsibilities

This role is best suited for applicants who are able to balance a busy work and study schedule. You will be an employee in CAMHS, but also enrolled for 2 days a week on a Postgraduate Diploma course, and trainees will be expected to study at a Postgraduate level. This will mean that applicants must be prepared to study and write assignments outside of protected study time (such as on weekends and after work). As this is a Postgraduate level diploma, you will be required to be able to study and write academic material at this level which is why the University requires a Bachelors degree (2:2 minimum).

Please note that when you apply to this role, your name will be shared with the Higher Education Institute (HEI) running the course. The service will usually be the Course Teams main way of contacting you until you have been sent an Offer, and so the Course Team at the HEI may ask for information if it is missing but relevant to deciding eligibility. Other information that might be shared is:

  • Reason behind ineligibility for the course.
  • Queries regarding application (such as if you claim to have a professional registration without submitting certificates, course may ask service to pursue more information)
  • Name change if you may have registered with a different name than HEI was given, they will confirm with service to ensure that they are reviewing the correct candidate.
