Job Overview
Within the Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service, an exciting position has arisen for a Band 7 Triage Co-ordinator to join our leadership team.
The successful candidate will hold responsibility for the triage pathway of the Adult Talking Therapies Service and the Adult Wellbeing Service. You will work alongside clinicians and administrative colleagues in the service and will demonstrate excellent communication skills, understanding and kindness to colleagues and to people who will, very often be having their first contact with our services.
The Triage Co-Ordinator will work closely with partners across the healthcare system and will be an active participant in community transformation, redesigning the way people can access mental health support across the city. As such, the ability and motivation to build and maintain strong reciprocal relationships is essential.

Please note, although we encourage positive work-life balance, we are not able to offer remote-working-only contracts for this role. Discussions about hybrid (home & office based) working are welcomed as this is a commonly adopted approach within the service. Part time (minimum 30 hours) and flexible working patterns will be considered, however due to the demands of the role it is essential for the successful applicant to be able to work in some capacity across at least 4 days (Mon-Fri).

You will be a committed, dynamic, motivated professional with excellent communication, assessment & organisational skills. You should have recent experience working in a mental health environment. You will show ability to prioritise your work independently, & allocate/oversee triage clinicians' workloads as necessary.
An essential feature of this role is oversight & leadership of the Service's Triage Pathway. You will need demonstrable experience of working in a leadership capacity with operational/performance measuring skills - auditing, forecasting, & regular complex use of Microsoft Office amongst other software programs.
You will be responsible for the service providing a comprehensive accessible & responsive mental health service to adults & their families in the city.
You will support the team & service leads in implementing of community transformation.
You will continually develop clinical, team & service evaluation & service delivery.
You contribute to effective multi-disciplinary working in the community mental health system & build up effective liaison with community, primary, & other secondary & tertiary services/agencies in the locality to provide holistic care based on individuals' needs & service development.

1.0 Job outline Main Duties
- The Triage Coordinator role ensures that all adult referrals to the Brighton and Hove Wellbeing
Service are triaged and managed appropriately within the agreed time scales.
1.2 The post holder will:
- Occupy the role of Triage Coordinator for adult referrals into the Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service, ensuring high quality screening of all referrals as they come in, discussing with GPs, as required, priority referrals and ensuring they receive an appropriate and clinically sound response.
- Oversee the work of other service members working into triage, ensuring high quality practice and adherence to agreed standards and KPIs
- Ensure adequate service cover to triage, including access to specialist advice from senior clinical staff on a daily basis
- Work with the triage and senior admin staff to ensure appropriate recording on the electronic care record and maintain statistics on referrals received and outcomes.
- Work collaboratively and in partnership with the Clinical Leads, Service Managers and Team Leaders in the service. Form strong working relationships with colleagues in Secondary Care and Third Sector providers.

- To act as an informal and formal source of information, support and supervision for all administrative and clinical colleagues within the triage team/function.
- To take the lead role in ensuring that all administrative and clinical colleagues working in triage have up to date knowledge of good practice and ensure that clinical practice is maintained in accordance with local, national and professional policies and codes of conduct.
- To work with Service Leads and contribute to the regular review of triage capacity within the service and the review of systems and procedures for managing work, including where appropriate formal evaluation and audit.
- To identify any difficulties in the delivery of an effective triage function and report them to the Service Manager as required.
- To take a lead in project groups relevant to the development of the triage function within the Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service.
- To take a lead role, through a collaborative appraisal process with Service leads, in identifying and assisting with the education, training and development needs of staff undertaking triage in the service, in line with professional requirements and service needs.
3.8 To contribute to the formulation of team policies and procedures and trust-wide clinical policies as they relate to triage and referral management within the Brighton and Hove Wellbeing Service.
- Clinical responsibilities
- To work as a senior mental health practitioner, providing a role model for other clinicians, using a high level of evidence-based clinical expertise, ensuring that the referral management process is robust and that appropriate risk assessments are carried out.
- To work in close collaboration and partnership with the other services within the locality, both internal and external to the organisation
- To actively promote a user and carer-led service, involving both in direct provision and development of services.
- To be the point of contact providing clinical expertise and decision making on referrals to the team.
- To co-ordinate and chair referral management meetings as required and discuss priority referrals with the GP as required. To attend other clinical interface meetings in relation to triage and referral management as required.
